Our mission is to prepare your child for life by providing an education anchored in faith. Our Catholic Montessori program is designed to enable each child to develop to their full potential as God created them. All children are naturally curious and love to learn. We support this innate drive by providing environments that meet your child's developmental needs with a well-prepared supportive staff, and a community of dedicated families. We inspire children to develop independence, problem-solving skills, confidence, self-discipline, and a love of learning within a foundation of faith. We celebrate your child's individuality and help them discover how they can best develop and use their God given gifts to contribute to our world and our society.
Children live in a different religious world. Young children not only have religious capacities but a particular religious hunger as well. “Joy wells up within them when helped to draw near to God. The happiness they feel when they come close to God is a quality of joy that makes them peaceful, relaxed, as if something very deep has been struck in their hearts…. Children are totally involved…There is nothing left out when they pray or hear the words of God.”
—Sophia Cavaletti, co-founder of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, The Good Shepherd and the Child: A Joyful Journey
Founded upon this philosophy, the children attending St. Philomena’s Montessori spend time each week in the Good Shepherd atrium and older children have the opportunity to attend mass with their class. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd materials are available to the children in the classroom at all times during the day and they gather together for daily prayer. Archbishop Schnurr has approved the school. This video highlights the Good Shepherd Component.
We want to help children become well-rounded individuals who are problem solvers, internally motivated, reflective, self-disciplined, and confident. They should enjoy the process of discovery and genuinely love learning. We want to develop peacemakers who respect themselves and others, who appreciate differences, who embrace collaboration and cooperation, and who cherish their world both locally and globally. We want children to learn how to take responsibility for their actions and care for those around them with Christ as their example.
Parents in our community trust in their children’s unique developmental path. In a spirit of collaboration with teachers, parents help their children grow in faith and independence, learn to celebrate their own and others’ accomplishments, work cooperatively, and consider ways to embrace new challenges. As members of the St. Philomena Montessori community, parents maintain a strong connection to the school and one another forming a vibrant community of faith and support.
We entrust our entire school community and program to these three patrons.
